SYNOPSIS: AmerSLC designed the Smart Sustainability Professional (SSP) Certificate to develop a community of innovative leaders with the essential capabilities to address sustainable game changes within and outside of their organization.
The SSP program expands core sustainability knowledge for the candidates. Rather than teaching prescriptive solutions, candidates learn practical knowledge on how to use the input and vision to create options and solutions that truly meet career needs.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The awareness and concern for economics and the environment has experienced exponential growth over the past decade. The challenges demand a pivot to new management practices, products and initiatives to embrace smart sustainable social and technological innovations. As a result, alternative fuels, renewable energies, energy efficiency and sustainability industries have converged into an interlinked system called Smart Sustainable Cities.
The concept is derived from five major developments:
1. The combination of Local, City District, Regional and National Sustainable Development
Planned infrastructure for sewage, water, energy and waste management
Information and Communication Technologies- Facilitated opportunities for new products, services and business models
Transportation and substitution for travel with telecommunication
The transition of wired to wireless via the Internet of Things (IOT)
The Smart Sustainability Professional program expands core sustainability knowledge for the candidates. Rather than teaching prescriptive solutions, candidates learn practical knowledge on how to use the input and vision to create options and solutions that truly meet career needs.
Experienced practitioners will gain a fresh perspective on smart community-type development. Those new to the smart sustainable movement will get the training they need to be knowledgeable in this field.
The Council uses a multi-sector, participatory approach to learning. Program candidates will learn through presentations, group dialogue and shared experiences with high-caliber sustainable development practitioners from corporate, academic and government sustainability leaders who represent different sectors of the economy – including government agencies, military, healthcare, universities, energy, retail, cybersecurity and large and small companies.
Professionals who have completed the program will have experienced a rich mix of interactive learning and conceptual presentations focused on understanding the broader aspects of smart sustainability. The curriculum is flexible enough to allow professionals to discover distinctive opportunities that they can implement into their work environment.
The blended learning program is highly customizable and offers many specializations to meet your individual needs and interests. With “community-type” development training through this program, candidates will be prepared with practical tools to meet today’s challenges as a team leader, project director, corporate leader, facilities and energy solutions manager in organizations and governmental and nongovernmental institutions.

Some courses may require additional software to complete assignments and collaborate with classmates, all of which will all be available online or within the course.
Presentations are made by various government agencies, military, healthcare, universities, energy, retail, cybersecurity and large and small companies. All our presenters bring foundational knowledge, as well as their personal experience and perspective, into their presentations.
